2.1.1: A = Common Hepatic Artery (CHA). The CHA is colored red in the image above. The artery starts at the bifurcation of the celiac artery and ends when the CHA bifurcates into the proper hepatic artery and gastroduodenal artery.
 
 
2.1.1: B = Proper Hepatic Artery (PHA). The PHA is colored blue in the image above starts when the CHA bifurcates into the PHA and gastroduodenal artery. The artery is relatively short and ends when it bifurcates into the right and left hepatic artery.
 
 
2.1.1: C = Right Hepatic Artery (RHA). The RHA is colored green in the image above. The RHA originates from the bifurcation of the PHA.
 
 
2.1.1: D = Left Hepatic Artery (LHA). The LHA is colored pink in the image above. The LHA originates from the bifurcation of the PHA.

2.1.2: F = Gastroduodenal Artery (GDA): The GDA is colored green in the image above. The GDA originates from the common hepatic artery when it bifurcates into the proper hepatic artery and the GDA.
 
 
2.1.2: G = Right Gastroepiploic Artery. The right gastroepiploic artery is colored blue in the image above. The right gastroepiploic artery originates from the bifurcation of the gastroduodenal artery into the superior pancreatic duodenal arteries and the right gastroepiploic artery.

2.1.3: K = Dorsal Pancreatic Artery. The dorsal pancreatic artery is colored purple in the above image. The dorsal pancreatic artery usually originates from the celiac artery, but it can also originate from the common hepatic artery or splenic artery.
 
 
2.1.3: M = Transverse Pancreatic Artery. The transverse pancreatic artery is colored purple in the above image. The transverse pancreatic artery usually originates from the dorsal pancreatic artery and often ends as the arteria pancreatica magna at it fuses with the splenic artery.
 
 
Classic celiac artery anatomy: The arteries as they relate to the organs: stomach
Note: I forgot to add the short gastric arteries to this diagram. They originate from the splenic hilum and feed the gastric fundus.
As you can see, the left and right gastric arteries form an arcade along the lesser curvature of the stomach. This is an important collateral network especially during selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT) of the liver. Off-target radioembolization results in a horrible non-healing ulcer of the lesser curvature.
The left and right gastroepiploic arteries form an arcade along the greater curvature. This is an important collateral to keep the spleen viable after proximal splenic artery embolization for blunt splenic injury. The right gastroepiploic is occasionally used for CABG to the distal right coronary artery, but the right gastroepiploic artery tends to spasm with the slightest mistreatment.
The gastroduodenal artery passes behind the pyloric region of the stomach where it can be injured by a posterior penetrating ulcer.
 
 
The arteries as they relate to the organs: pancreas
The pancreas has an extensive network of arteries as shown above. Transplant surgeons use both the inferior pancreaticoduodenal arteries and the celiac artery for antegrade supply to the transplant pancreas.
 
 
Question 2.1.4: Basic superior mesenteric artery (SMA) anatomy.
Name the arteries labeled A and B.
 
 
2.1.4: A = Middle Colic Artery. The middle colic artery is colored orange and red in the above image. The red part is actually the Marginal Artery of Drummond. The middle colic artery arises from the proximal superior mesenteric artery (SAM) along the anterior wall.
 
 
2.1.4: B = The Right Colic Artery. The right colic artery is colored a light blue (Carolina Blue) in the above image. The other large branch heading toward the right lower quadrant is the iliocolic artery.
 
 
Basic SMA diagrams:
The inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery and the middle colic tend to come off the SMA as a single trunk. If a replaced right hepatic artery is present, it too comes off the SMA with this trunk.
 
 
Question 2.1.5: Name that artery:
A. Gastroduodenal artery
B. Superior gluteal artery
C. Inferior gluteal artery
D. Superior pancreaticoduodenal artery
E. Iliocolic artery
 
 
2.1.5: The most correct answer is E: Iliocolic artery.
The image shows both the iliocolic and right colic artery, but the right colic artery is not given as a possible answer. The trick to identifying this artery is to find the cecum first and then realize that the artery is supplying this area.
 
 
Question 2.1.6: Basic inferior mesenteric artery anatomy.
Name the arteries labeled A and B.
 
 
2.1.6: A = Ascending Branch of Inferior Mesenteric Artery (IMA). The ascending branch of the IMA is colored blue in the above image. This artery will eventually collateralize with the marginal artery of Drummond and thus connect the IMA to the SMA.
 
 
2.1.6: B = Superior hemorrhoidal artery. The superior hemorrhoidal artery is colored orange in the above image. This artery is a key collateral between the mesenteric system and the pelvic arteries via the middle hemorrhoidal arteries, which is a branch of the internal iliac artery.
